Back in 1973, in Hollywood California, Darryl Marshak and Ethan Margalith, 2 teenagers fresh out of high school, “best friends” and roommates needed work for the summer before starting college in the Fall. They were ready to do whatever people needed to be done; painting houses, running errands, gardening, etc. After Darryl was offered $20 to “streak nude’ – a short-lived craze of the early 70’s – Ethan settled on moving.
So they bought what they could afford – an old 1944 Dodge Truck. While one was painting on the side of the truck “Students – Mover for Hire”, the other said as a lark, with a truck like that we should say we are “Starving”. “Starving Students”. They liked it; a company was born. They were eager and they were innovative and they found ways to deliver the best value to the customer.
The company has moved millions of people over the years and the original founders continue to be involved and remain best friends forever.
